The primary purpose of this role is to provide operational implementation of the UK & Ireland operational systems strategy, and to coordinate an integrated brand planning process for the affiliate.

  • Ensure business systems deliver business need

  • Provide consultancy to the UK & Ireland affiliate departments and key projects on operational systems

  • Ensure industry operational systems best practice is understood and implemented when appropriate.

  • Coordinate brand planning and review cycle, challenging and supporting brand teams and functions in executing identified key opportunities and implementing change.

  • Ensure operational governance, adherence to all quality and compliance standards both internal and external

Role and responsibilities

  • Leadership and management of the Business Operations team ensuring delivery of agreed standards and operational objectives whilst living the Celgene values

  • Ensuring commercial business systems are fit for purpose and enable the business and all users to perform their roles effectively and efficiently while adhering to all internal and external quality and compliance standards

  • Proactively act as consultant to internal and external stakeholders for operational systems and processes best practice

  • Supplier management, ensuring a strong relationship at all times with all suppliers thus driving operational effectiveness

  • Develop and maintain a medium term (2-3 years) business systems strategy recognizing the need for future applications whilst ensuring alignment with EMEA strategy

  • Ownership of mobile device policies to ensure (a) mobile devices (iPads and iPhones currently) are used appropriately, (b) mobile devices are replaced at appropriate intervals to maintain functionality, (c) process in place for repair and (d) tracked and returned when required

  • Develop and maintain brand planning and review cycle, challenging and supporting brand teams and functions in executing identified key opportunities and implementing change

  • Member of Governance & Compliance forums

  • Maintain budget for operational systems and brand planning, seeking opportunities to implement value for money initiatives

Leadership Responsibilities

  • To support the AD Insights and Operational Systems by leading the Business Operations team to deliver on agreed standards and operational objectives.

  • Ensuring the team lives the Celgene values working collaboratively with all stakeholders.

Business systems responsibilities

  • To identify requirements, develop & maintain business systems, developing a medium term (2-3 year) systems strategy recognizing the need for future applications and ensure alignment with EMEA strategy.

  • Develop field operating and reporting systems to provide appropriate user functionality and visibility.

Implementation & execution responsibilities

  • Key to success is the design and implementation of agreed working practices & challenge mechanism between the Operational systems team and customers.

  • This should encompass a feedback loop, action plan, communication strategy and on delivery of the proposed actions.


  • Degree level preferred

Skills and Knowledge required

  • Relevant pharmaceutical industry experience

  • Solid knowledge and understanding of CRM systems

  • Experience of managing a sales reporting tool. Tableau experience preferred

  • A good understanding of data warehousing and cubes

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Ability to effectively interact and influence with all levels in the business

  • A successful history of diverse people management experience

  • Strong and demonstrated leadership skills

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Logical, organised thought process adaptable to providing business solutions and encouraging change

  • Ability to switch between detail orientation and helicopter view

  • Ability to prioritize in a dynamic environment and pro-actively identify and recommend solutions for business efficiencies / opportunities

  • Proficiency in English language with strong report writing skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office with excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills

  • Knowledge and experience of project management methodology
