Celgene, San Diego, CA is seeking a highly motivated and team-oriented candidate for the position of Scientist I in the Pharmacokinetics and Drug Metabolism (DMPK) Department. This person will serve as an ADME expert to support early to late discovery projects for both Inflammation and Oncology therapeutic areas. He/She will effectively interface within the DMPK department and with external functions such as Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology, Toxicology, and Early Development. Expected duties for the successful candidate will be to independently execute ADME studies in a fast-pace environment and present results.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Supporting drug discovery efforts as a member of Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics group.
Serving as a project team representative and implementing ADME strategies to support drug discovery programs and contributing to multi-disciplinary teams in a collaborative fashion.
About 50 % bench work to design and conduct mechanistic DMPK studies using in vitro/in vivo systems to resolve project specific ADME-related issues.
Conducting enzymology and biotransformation studies in order to optimize ADME properties of new candidate entities.
Using high resolution LC/MS/MS to interrogate the structural identity of metabolites generated from microsomes and hepatocytes as well as in vivo matrices (e.g. plasma, bile and urine).
Ph.D. with at least 2 years of post-doctoral work preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline with at least 10 years work experience or Master’s degree with at least 8 years work experience.
A solid knowledge of enzymology or transporters is required
Knowledge of biotransformation is highly desirable
Strong medicinal chemistry or biochemistry experience is required.
Experience using high resolution mass spectrometers and their associated softwares to support biotransformation work (TOFs, Q-Traps, Orbitraps etc.) is desirable.
An understanding of DMPK principles and their application to drug discovery and development.
Practical experience with cell-based systems to perform mechanistic ADME studies is preferred.
A strong understanding of DMPK principles and their application to drug discovery and early development phase.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, oral/written communication and teamwork skills are required.
